HTTP (HIMTI Togetherness and Top Performances)

So, the last thing i’m going to explain about in this blog is about the Binus University’s School of Computer Science biggest welcoming party event called HTTP (HIMTI Togetherness and Top Performances). First of all, i bet you’re all wondering what does HIMTI exactly stands for? Well, HIMTI stands for Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Informatika, which means Computer Science’s Community in English. If we’re to call it in highschool, it will be the student council. To join this event, it costs us 150 thousand rupiah, which was kind of worth it because we were given softwares, T-shirt, foods, transportation, and an Introduction to C Programming Language class. Well, let’s stop beating around the bush, i will now explain about my experience during this event!

HTTP-2016

Prior to the main event held on the 10th of September 2016 at Jakarta, BPPT II Building, we were given a class to introduce us to C Programming Language. For me personally, this class was truly helpful as it bestowed us with the fundamental of C Language, and then, comes the main event. The main event was held from 09.00 AM to 06.30 PM approximately. This event has been held since 2001 by the HIMTI and each year it has a different theme. 2015’s HTTP theme was SHINE, the abbreviation of “Strengthening Harmony & Inspiring New Experiences”. This year, it’s Passion, Innovation and Togetherness”. Before we enter the main hall to join the event, we were asked to fill in our student ID in order to prove that we attend the event. While we’re on the way to the main hall, there were many software made by Computer Science’s students being exhibited and we could try any kind of them if we wished to. Afterwards, we arrived on the main hall before 09.00 AM just to watch a movie “Zootopia” because 09.00 AM was the scheduled time of the event to began. When the clock hits 09.00 AM sharp, the event started. First of all, there were singing performances done by a band of Binusian 2020’s student called “Peanut Butter” and a Binusian 2017 student, our senior. Later on, we were given opening speeches by the President of HIMTI Kemanggisan’s branch, Jonathan Gozali, the President of HIMTI Alam Sutera’s branch, Rional Aureri Linggautama, the leader of HTTP’s event, and the chairman of Computer Science Department. After that, there were games where the MC would made some students came up to the stage to play, in which the winner would get a prize. We were given an hour break soon after. There were some stand established by the sponsors on the outside of the hall so we could buy some snacks and drinks to fill our stomach.

When the break’s over, we assembled again in the main hall to listen to a talk show. The guest was the student of Binus whom just made a innovative software. Then, we there were a drama performance or as the call it as a “Visualisation” where the casts didn’t talk during the drama, instead, the dialogue has already been recorded and they were just demonsrating the dialogue. It was actually a pretty well rehearsed drama, but its content was really dull and the cheesiness literally made me cringed. And after the visualisation finished, we were again given a recess and were asked to came back in an hour again. In that recess, we were prohibited to enter the hall as they were cleaning up the chair for the next event.

The next events were dance, band, and DJ performances. The dance was good as it was done by females, a some kind of mythical creature in the School of Computer Science, and the band were AWESOME because they could really bring us into the mood of singing and dancing with them. The DJ’s performance was actually not bad, but i’m not really a person to enjoy EDM and yeah, clubbing or something like that. After the DJ’s performances, we were allowed to go home and we could take our shirt souvenir.

In my honest opinion, this event was truly well-rehearsed and prepared, but it was lacking content. I was hoping it would be really fun and worth to be waited for, but it wasn’t. I feel like it was forced to be a really long event as it was held from 09.00 AM to 06.30 PM. To be honest, we spent much more time complaining to go home rather than enjoying the event . For an event that has been held for over a decade, it really disappointed me. But i hope in the future, we could change those things. I believe that as a Computer Science student we CAN improve the quality of this event. This will be a challenge to us. That’s why i hope i’ll be accepted as an activist of HIMTI in the future and i want to make a change to this event.

That’s all i can share about my experience about this event, hope you enjoy my review and honestly i did enjoy the event even if it’s just a bit, and i hope for a better future for all of HIMTI’s event.

Regards, HIMTI, One Family, One GOAL!
